DESCRIPTION Basic techniques of keyboarding by touch using personal computers. Content will include business letters, reports, interoffice memoranda, and tables using Microsoft Word commands.
OBJECTIVES 1. To develop correct keyboarding techniques.
2. To develop speed and accuracy.
3. To create, print, edit, and format business letters, reports, interoffice memos, and tables using Microsoft Word.

If you plan to take CAOT 1 only and not a 2nd semester of keyboarding you should purchase:

with MS Word 2003 Manual for Lessons 1-120

MATERIALS One 3½ high-density diskette
ATTENDANCE Since the purpose of this course is the development of a psychomotor skill, consistent attendance is necessary. If attendance cannot be regular, the course should not be attempted. Excessive absences will result in an unsatisfactory grade in the course. Class meets five hours a week.
COMPUTER LAB Additional computer lab time will be announced. Hours will be posted. Practice outside of class is advised.
GRADING Evaluation will be announced. It will include evaluation of documents and speed tests.
CHEATING Cheating will not be tolerated in any way and will result in an “F” in the course.

The following is considered cheating:
• Talking during a test.
• Getting help or copying answers from another student during a test.
• Helping or giving another student answers during a test.
• Turning in an assignment which has not been completed by you.
• Using notes, books, or other references that are not authorized during a test.
No distinction will be made between the student who did the work or test and the student who received or copied the work or test. The student(s) may also be referred to the Vice President of Student Services for further action which could result in probation, suspension, or expulsion from LAVC.
